1

On the high cliffs of Jordan with pleasure I stand,And view in perspective the fair promised land,—The land where the ransomed with singing shall come,And enter the kingdom prepared as their home.

2

'T is there all the nations redeemed by the Lamb,In circles most lovely, his praises proclaim;Through tempests, and sorrows, and perils, they come,To enter those mansions prepared as their home.

3

All over those peaceful and beautiful plains,The Lord, our Redeemer, in righteousness reigns; His scepter of empire he now doth assume,And kindly doth welcome his followers home.

4

How blest are those regions, the realms of repose,Through which the fair river of life gently flows!—The regions ambrosial, forever in bloom;—God's own habitation, the saints' happy home!

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «REWARD OF SAINTS.»; hymn number «1006» (large), tune name «FREDERICK. 11s.» centred over the music (capitals and small capitals), «GEO. KINGSLEY.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, one line under each of the three systems, with «1.» before «On» (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`): «ransomed» is set solid, the other words are hyphenated by syllable; between «land,» and «The» the print has a dash («land, —The»), which belongs to the end of line 2. The reference line «512, 511.» in italic figures stands under the music at the head of the left column (= the words may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 512 REST IN HEAVEN or 511 I LOVE THEE, both 11s.); stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column, numbered «2»–«4» without periods (written «2.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), all four lines of a stanza starting at the same indent. Eight long lines are broken by the column width and their last word(s) turned over on a deeper-indented line (stanza 2: «the / Lamb,», «perils, / they come,», «their / home.»; stanza 3: «righteousness / reigns;», «followers / home.»; stanza 4: «of / repose,», «gently / flows!—», «happy / home!»); each verse is one line here. «Anon.» in italics at the right after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («proclaim ;», «reigns ;», «flows !—», «bloom ;—», «home !»); it is closed up here. «'T is» and «saints'» with straight apostrophes. A large handwritten note of a later owner («CH 309 To Haydn tune») runs over the turned-over «home!» of stanza 4 and the header of hymn 1007; it is not part of the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
