Lord of the harvest, hear

  • No. 1042
  • Words Charles Wesley.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Lord of the harvest, hearThy needy servants' cry;Answer our faith's effectual prayer,And all our wants supply.

2

On thee we humbly wait; Our wants are in thy view; The harvest, truly, Lord, is great,The laborers are few.

3

Convert and send forth more,To spread thy truth abroad; And let them speak thy word of power,As workers with their God.

4

O let them spread thy name,Their mission fully prove;Thy universal grace proclaim,Thine all redeeming love.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1042» (large) with the reference line «762, 736, 89.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 762, 736 or 89); the hymn stands in the lower half of the right column of p. 356 (running head «THE CHURCH—MINISTRY AND MISSIONS.»), below hymn 1041, and ends at the foot of that column with «Charles Wesley.» in italics. Four stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without a full stop (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book). The first word «LORD» is set in capitals and small capitals. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. The print sets a thin space before «;» («cry ;», «wait ;», «view ;», «prove ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophes of «servants'» and «faith's» are the printer's curly ones, written straight. Spelling («laborers»), punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is S. M., 6.6.8.6, like the tunes of the reference line).
