⤢ Full screenSow in the morn thy seed,At eve hold not thy hand;To doubt and fear give thou no heed,Broadcast it o'er the land.
And duly shall appear,In verdure, beauty, strength,The tender blade, the stalk, the ear,And the full corn at length.
Thou canst not toil in vain:Cold, heat, and moist, and dry,Shall foster and mature the grainFor garners in the sky.
Then, when the glorious end,The day of God, shall come,The angel reapers shall descend,And heaven shout, "Harvest home!"
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1045» (large) in the right column of p. 357, under stanza 4 of hymn 1044 («Lydia H. Sigourney.»), with the reference line «558, 762, 584.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 558, 762 or 584 — BOYLSTON, KENTUCKY, MORNINGTON, all S. M.; the line ends with a full stop). Four stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without a full stop (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented. The first word «Sow» is set in ordinary type (a capital and lower case), not in small capitals as the other first words of the page. «James Montgomery.» in italics at the right under stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («hand ;», «vain :», «home !»), and a space after the opening quotation mark («" Harvest»); they are closed up here, and the curly apostrophe and quotation marks are written straight («o'er», «"Harvest home!"»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
