Go forth on wings of faith and prayer

  • No. 1050
  • Words Thomas Hastings.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Go forth on wings of faith and prayer,Ye pages bright with love;Though mute, the joyful tidings bear—Salvation from above.

2

Go, tell the sinful, careless soulThe warning God has given;Go, make the wounded spirit whole,With healing balm from heaven.

3

Go to the rude, the dark, the poor,That live estranged from God;Bid them the pearl of price secure,Bought with a Saviour's blood.

4

O Jesus, Friend of dying men,Thy presence we implore;Without thy blessing all is vain;Be with us evermore.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1050» (large) in the right column of p. 358, under hymn 1049 («Countess Zinzendorf.»), with the reference line «399, 179, 308.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 399, 179 or 308 — HARVEY'S CHANT, ORTONVILLE, EVAN, all C. M.; no meter is printed — the lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M.). Stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without a full stop (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented. The first word «Go» is printed in ordinary type here (not in small capitals as in hymns 1048 and 1049). «Thomas Hastings.» in italics at the right under stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» («love ;», «given ;», «God ;», «implore ;», «vain ;»); it is closed up here, and the curly apostrophe is written straight («Saviour's»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
