⤢ Full screenBy Christ redeemed, in Christ restored,We keep the memory adored,And show the death of our dear Lord,Until he come.
His body broken in our steadIs here, in this memorial bread; And so our feeble love is fed,Until he come.
His fearful drops of agony,His life-blood shed for us we see;The wine shall tell the mystery,Until he come.
And thus that dark betrayal night,With the last advent we unite—The shame, the glory, by this rite,Until he come.
Until the trump of God be heard,Until the ancient graves be stirred,And with the great commanding word,The Lord shall come.
O blessed hope! with this elate,Let not our hearts be desolate,But, strong in faith, in patience wait,Until he come!
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1125» (large, left), tune name «NAUFORD. 8s & 4.» centred over the music (condensed display capitals), «A. S. SULLIVAN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); no reference line. Stanza 1 is printed as one line under the treble staff, in a condensed bold face, with «1.» before «By»: «By Christ redeemed,in Christ restored,We keep the memory adored, And show the death of our dear Lord, Un-til he come.» — the print has no space after the commas of «redeemed,» and «restored,» (condensed setting); the space is restored here, where the verse lines are separate; «Un-til» is printed with a syllable hyphen and is written «Until» here, as in stanzas 2–6. Stanzas 2–6 are printed as text in two columns, numbered «2»–«6» without periods (written «2.»–«6.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); the fourth, short line of every stanza is set far to the right of the others (indented here); stanza 4 runs from the foot of the left column (lines 1–2) to the top of the right column (lines 3–4); «George Rawson.» in italics, right-aligned, closes the hymn. The dash after «unite» is one long dash (about one em, broken by wear into two pieces, «unite—-» in the scan), written «—» here. The «U» of «Until» in stanza 5, line 2 is damaged in the print (the page OCR read «tntil»). The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («see ;», «hope !», «come !»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
