⤢ Full screenLo, what a glorious sight appearsTo our believing eyes! The earth and seas are passed away,And the old rolling skies. And the old rolling skies,And the old rolling skies; The earth and seas are passed away,And the old rolling skies.
O that will be joyful, joyful, joyful!O that will be joyfulWhen we meet to part no more! When we meet to part no more,On Canaan's happy shore;'Tis there we'll meet, at Jesus' feet,When we meet to part no more.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»; hymn number «1162» (large) with, below it in italics, «Other stanzas, No. 982.»; tune name «NEW JERUSALEM. C. M. D.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals, the «D.» smaller), «ARRANGED.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Only stanza 1 is printed, interlinear, with the chorus; the other stanzas are those of hymn 982 («Lo, what a glorious sight appears», Isaac Watts., p. 332, whose reference line names 1162 first), sung to this tune the same way. In system 1, «1.» and a brace before two lines — «Lo, what a glo - rious sight ap-pears To our be-liev - ing eyes!» (first time) and «The earth and seas are passed a - way, And the old roll - ing skies.» (on the repeat) — and, after the closing brace, «And the old rolling skies, . .» (under the segno and the bars that follow); under it, in italics, the D. S. line «D. S.—When we meet to part no more, .». System 2: «And the old roll - ing skies; The earth and seas are passed a - way, And the old roll - ing skies.» with, in italics below, «On Canaan's happy shore;' Tis there we'll meet, at Je - sus' feet, When we meet to part no more.»; «Fine.» over the end of system 2. System 3, headed «Chorus.»: «O that will be joy ful, joy - ful, joy - ful! O that will be joy - ful When we meet to part no more!», «D.S.» over the end (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`). The italic lines are sung after the chorus, from the segno to «Fine.»; the stanza below is assembled in the order sung (the italic lines, set in italics in the print, are written in roman here, as in the other D. S. deliveries of this book). The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («eyes !», «skies ;», «shore ;»); it is closed up here. In the italic line the apostrophe of «'Tis» stands right after the semicolon with a space before «Tis» («shore ;' Tis»); written «shore; 'Tis» here. Apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Ink handwriting of the exemplar's owner beside the number (see `uncertainties.md`) is not transcribed.
