⤢ Full screenWill you go, sinner, go to the highlands of heaven,Where the storms never blow, and the long summer's given;Where the bright, blooming flowers are their odors emitting,And the leaves of the bowers, in the breezes are flitting?
Where the rich golden fruit is in bright clusters pending,And the deep-laden boughs of life's fair tree are bending,And where life's crystal stream is unceasingly flowing,And the verdure of spring is eternally growing.
Now while pardon's last hour is expiring in heaven,And the last gracious call is on earth being given,—O haste! sinner haste, leave thy sinful behavior,The commandments embrace and the faith of the Saviour.
Look by faith to the cross, and behold Jesus bleeding,Then, ascended on high, at the throne interceding,O, secure pardon now, while sweet mercy's extended,Ere the harvest is past and the summer is ended.
He's prepared thee a home, sinner, canst thou believe it?And invites thee to come, sinner, wilt thou receive it?O, come, sinner, come; for the time is receding,And the Saviour will soon and forever cease pleading.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»; hymn number «1172» (large), tune name «WILL YOU GO?» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «ARRANGED.» at the right; no meter and no reference line. The music is ONE long system: a repeated first half closed by a repeat bar with «Fine.», then a second half closed by «D. C.». Stanza 1 is printed between the staves after «1.» and a brace: verse lines 1 and 2 as two roman lines under the first half («Will you go, sin- ner, go to the highlands of heav- en,» / «Where the storms never blow, and the long summer's giv-en ;»), verse line 3 once under the second half («Where the bright, blooming flowers are their odors emitting,»), and verse line 4 in italics under the first half, preceded by «D. C.—» («And the leaves of the bowers, in the breezes are flitting?»), sung after the D. C. Stanza 1 below is in the order sung. Stanzas 2–5 follow as text in two columns, numbered «2»–«5» without a full stop (numbered «2.»–«5.» here like stanza 1); their long lines are turned over with a hanging indentation in the print («pending,», «bending,», «flowing,», «heaven,», «given,—», «the Saviour.», «bleeding,», «interced-/ing,», «ex-/tended,», «believe it ?», «re-/ceive it ?», «pleading.») — each verse is one line here. «Anon.» in italics after stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;», «!» and «?» («giv-en ;», «haste !», «believe it ?», «receive it ?», «come ;»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («behavior», «odors»). The whole hymn is over-inked in this exemplar; doubtful words are listed in `uncertainties.md`.
