⤢ Full screenCome and reign; come and reign,Jesus, quickly come; For now it fills my heart with joyTo know I'm almost home.
Here I see the falling tear,As pilgrim now I roam,An exile from my Father's house; But soon he'll call me home.
Here I grieve the friends I love,And they in turn grieve me;But, O my Saviour! grant me grace,That I may not grieve thee.
Here disease invades our frame,We sicken, droop, and die;But there eternal youth shall bloom,And bright shall beam each eye.
Here we meet and part again,As far and near we roam; But there we'll meet to part no more,And sweetly rest at home.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»; hymn number «1176» (large), tune name «COME AND REIGN.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «ARRANGED.» at the right; no meter and no reference line. The music has two systems: the first, headed «Chorus.» and closed by «Fine.», carries the chorus; the second carries stanza 1 («1.») and is closed by «D. C.». The book's index of first lines lists the hymn by its chorus («Come and reign; come and…»). Stanzas 2–4 follow as text in two columns, numbered «2», «3», «4» without a full stop (numbered «2.»–«4.» here like stanza 1), with the line «CHO.—Come, and reign, &c.» («CHO.» in capital and small capitals; a comma after «Come» in these lines) printed before stanza 2, twice between stanzas 2 and 3, twice between stanzas 3 and 4, and once after stanza 4, where «Anon.» stands at the right in bold italics. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («reign ;», «come ;», «house ;», «me ;», «Saviour !», «die ;», «roam ;»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Pen marks of the scanned copy («Chorus» and an illegible word beside the title) are not part of the print and are recorded only in `uncertainties.md`.
