⤢ Full screenAn angel's voice now breaks upon the ear,In solemn tones, a message loud and clear,To every nation, kindred, people, tongue:"Fear God and give him praise—his judgment's come.
Another angel follows in the train;Listen, O earth, and catch another strain:Great Babylon is fallen in her pride;Nations have shared her wine—her Lord denied.
Now the third angel lifts his voice, O, hark!If any worship beast, or bear his mark,The same, unmingled wrath shall surely drink,And in the lake of fire at last shall sink.
Here is the patience of the saints who waitTill Jesus comes and ends their mortal state; They God's commandments keep, pure from above,And faith of Jesus, in the bond of love.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1187» (large) at the head of p. 408 (running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»), tune name «MELTON.» centred (capitals and small capitals), meter «10s.» beside it, «ARRANGED.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, one ten-syllable verse per half system, «1.» before «An»; it is given below as four verse lines. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in two columns below the music (stanza 3 runs from the foot of the left column to the head of the right column), numbered «2»–«4» without a period (written «2.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book). The third line of stanza 4 runs over into an indented turnover («above,»), joined here into one verse line. «R. F. Cottrell.» in italics at the foot of the right column. The interlinear text opens a quotation at «"Fear» and closes none (the line ends «judgment's come.»): kept as printed, the opening quotation mark written straight. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («train ;», «strain :», «pride ;», «hark !», «state ;», «tongue :»); it is closed up here, and apostrophes are written straight («angel's», «judgment's», «God's»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No reference line: the hymn has its own tune.
