⤢ Full screenWe praise thee, O God, for the Son of thy love,—For Jesus who died, and is now gone above.
Hallelujah! thine the glory,Hallelujah! amen;Hallelujah! thine the glory,Revive us again.
We praise thee, O God, for thy Spirit of light,Who has shown us our Saviour, and scattered our night.
All glory and praise to the Lamb that was slain,Who has borne all our sins and has cleansed every stain.
All glory and praise to the God of all grace,Who has bought us, and sought us, and guided our ways.
Revive us again; fill each heart with thy love;May each soul be rekindled with fire from above.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: page head «SPECIAL DEPARTMENT.» and «(BIBLE SONGS.)» (first page of the department; CONTENTS: «BIBLE SONGS. Miscellaneous … 1191–1239»); hymn number «1191» (large), title «Revive Us Again.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals); on the next line «WM. PATON MACKAY.» at the left (author of the words), the epigraph «"O Lord, revive thy work."—Hab. 3 : 2.» in the centre, and «ARR. FROM THE ENGLISH.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); no meter, no copyright line. Pen annotations of the exemplar — «Rev.» before the author's name and «John J. Husband» beside the title — are not part of the print and are not transcribed here (see uncertainties.md). All five stanzas are interlinear, five lines between the staves of systems 1 and 2, numbered «1.»–«5.»; each stanza is two verse lines, given here as the verse lines of the poem (the staff break falls after «For Je-sus who» / «Who has shown us our» …). «CHORUS.» is printed over the treble staff at m9; its words stand once, on the line of stanza 3 in system 2 and alone in system 3, and are sung after every stanza; they are given here in four verse lines, after stanza 1, as the print gives them once. Syllable hyphens are joined («Spir - it», «Sav - iour», «scat-tered», «ev - ery», «guid - ed», «a - bove», «Hal - le - lu - jah»); stanza 5 «re-» (end of system 1) + «kin - dled» is joined as «rekindled». The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («a - gain ;», «jah !», «amen ;»); it is closed up here. «amen» is printed lower-case, as one word, in the chorus. Spelling («Saviour»), punctuation (the dash of «love,—», no comma after «sins» in stanza 3) and capitals are the print's.
