1

I would be, dear Saviour, wholly thine;Teach me how, teach me how;I would do thy will, O Lord, not mine;Help me, help me now.

2

What is worldly pleasure, wealth, or fame,Without thee, without thee?I will leave them all for thy dear name,This my wealth shall be.

As I cast earth's transient joys behind,Come thou near, come thou near;In thy presence all in all I find,'Tis my comfort here.

REFRAIN

Wholly thine, wholly thine,Wholly thine, this is my vow;Wholly thine, wholly thine,Wholly thine, O Lord, just now.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: no running head on this page (it opens with «SHADOW OF THE CROSS.—Concluded.», the last system of hymn 1200); hymn number «1201» (large, left), title «WHOLLY THINE.» centred (capitals and small capitals, «Wholly Thine.»); under it the epigraph «"Consecrate yourselves to-day to the Lord, * * * that he may bestow upon you a blessing."—Ex. 32 : 29.» (the three asterisks are printed); «F. E. B.» (the words) at the left and «F. E. BELDEN.» (the music, capitals and small capitals) at the right, above system 1; «REFRAIN.» in bold capitals above system 3; «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.» centred at the foot of the music, folio «419» below it. No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. All three stanzas are interlinear, between the staves of systems 1–2, numbered «1.»–«3.» before the first line; the REFRAIN is printed once, under systems 3–4, and is sung after every stanza. Each printed line of words carries two verse lines; they are given here one verse line per line. Under the refrain line a second, lower line prints «O Lord,» four times (under the second and third beats of the bars of «thine,» — twice in each system): it is the echo sung by the tenor and the bass while the soprano and the alto hold «thine,» (see uncertainties.md); as in HT_0805, the echo is not repeated inside the refrain text below — the refrain is sung «Wholly thine, (O Lord,) wholly thine, (O Lord,) Wholly thine, this is my vow; / Wholly thine, (O Lord,) wholly thine, (O Lord,) Wholly thine, O Lord, just now.» by the lower voices. Interlinear «transient» (stanza 3) is printed unhyphenated over two notes; «Sav - iour», «whol - ly», «world - ly», «pleas - ure», «With - out», «be - hind», «pres - ence», «com - fort» are joined. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «?» («how ;», «thee ?», «near ;», «vow ;»); it is closed up here. Spelling («Saviour», «'Tis»), punctuation and capitals are the print's (the second «whol-ly» of each refrain half is printed lower-case, the third capitalised); apostrophes and quotation marks are written straight.
