⤢ Full screenJesus, lover of my soul,Let me to thy bosom fly,While the billows near me roll,While the tempest still is high.Hide me, O my Saviour, hide,Till the storm of life is past,Safe into the haven guide,O receive my soul at last,Safe into the haven guide,O receive my soul at last.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1224» (large) at the left, title «JESUS, LOVER OF MY SOUL.» centred (condensed capitals with larger initials); under it the epigraph given below; «CHARLES WESLEY.» (the words) at the left and «WILLIAM B. BRADBURY.» (the music) at the right above system 1, both in capitals and small capitals; under the music, centred, «From " Fresh Laurels " by per. Biglow & Main.» and the folio «442». No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line, no running head. Only ONE stanza is printed, numbered «1.»: it stands under the melody staff and, again, under the middle (treble) staff, which sings the same words in its own rhythm; the bass staff has no words. In systems 3–4 (and «Hide me,» at the end of system 2) the words under the melody are set in a condensed bold face. The last two verse lines («Safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last») are printed twice, to different music, and are given twice here as printed. Leader dots after «fly,», «past,» and «guide,» under the melody mark melismas, not words (kept in `lyrics_syllables.txt`). Words divided under the notes are joined («Je - sus», «lov-er», «bo-som», «in-to», «in - to», «re-ceive»). The print's thin space before «?» in the epigraph is closed up; quotation marks are written straight. Spelling and punctuation are the print's («Saviour», «past,»).
