⤢ Full screenOpen the windows of heav'n, O Lord,Here are my tithes for thee:Sure is the promise contained in thy word;—Pour out a rich blessing on me.
Open the windows of heaven for me,Open the windows of heaven for me;Open, O Lord, open, O Lord, the windows, the windows,The windows of heaven for me.
All that I have I would hold as thine,Lent in thy love so free;Add to these blessings thy presence divine,—The dearest of all gifts to me.
Thus would I prove thee, in faith, O Lord;Bringing my tithe of all; Thus would receive a far richer rewardOf heavenly blessings that fall.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1223» (large, left), title «OPEN THE WINDOWS OF HEAVEN.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «Open the Windows of Heaven.»); under it the epigraph in two lines, «"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse * * and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room to receive it."—Mal. 3 : 10.» («all» and «it» in italics, two asterisks for the omission, no comma after «hosts», old-style figures); on the next line «F. E. B.» at the left (words) and «F. E. BELDEN.» at the right (music, capitals and small capitals). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. The three stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«3.» (the «3.» in old-style figures, like an «8.»), between the staves of systems 1–2; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over system 3, and the chorus words are printed once, under systems 3–4; the chorus is sung after every stanza. In system 4 the tenor and bass answer «the windows,» (small type, under each «O Lord,») while soprano and alto sing «O Lord,»; the echo is given below in its place, indented. Under the music, centred: «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.»; page number «441». Each printed line of words carries two verse lines; they are given here one verse line per line. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («word ;—», «thee :», «free ;», «all ;», «me ;», «Mal. 3 : 10»); it is closed up here; curly quotes are written straight. Words printed with syllable hyphens under the staves («O - pen», «win-dows», «prom-ise», «di - vine», «Bring-ing», «rich - er», «re - ward», «heaven - ly», «heav - en») are joined here; the hyphenation as printed is in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
