⤢ Full screenI'm kneeling at the cross,The cross of Calvary; All earthly gain is lossThat hideth this from me.
Kneeling, humbly kneeling;Jesus hears me pray; And now, his love revealing,He takes my guilt away.
O sweetest hour of day!O dearest hour of night! When kneeling, thus I pray,"Direct me, Lord, aright."
His mercy is my plea,No hope in self have I;His blood was shed for me,—This is my only cry.
When most I feel my need,Then greatest strength is mine; And often as I pleadI feel his touch divine.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1237» (large, left), title «KNEELING AT THE CROSS.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «Kneeling at the Cross.»); under it the epigraph in two lines, «"God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified / unto me, and I unto the world."—Eph. 6 : 14.» (old-style figures; the reference is printed «Eph.» although the words are Galatians 6:14 — kept as printed, see uncertainties.md); on the next line «F. E. B.» at the left (words) and «F. E. BELDEN.» at the right (music, capitals and small capitals). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. All four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«4.», between the staves of system 1 and the first half of system 2; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over the middle of system 2, and the chorus words are printed once (from the middle of system 2, on the second lyric row, to the end of system 3); the chorus is sung after every stanza. Under the music, centred: «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.» Each printed line of words carries two verse lines; they are given here one verse line per line. Words divided under the notes are joined («kneel - ing», «Cal - va - ry», «earth - ly», «sweet - est», «dear - est», «a-right», «mer - cy», «on - ly», «oft - en», «di-vine», «Je - sus», «re - veal - ing», «a - way» → «kneeling», «Calvary», «earthly», «sweetest», «dearest», «aright», «mercy», «only», «often», «divine», «Jesus», «revealing», «away»). The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («ry ;», «day !», «night !», «I ;», «mine ;», «kneeling ;», «pray ;»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
