⤢ Full screenTen lepers were cleansed, but only oneReturned to give God glory;O, where are the nine, ungrateful nine? One only tells the story.
Ye whose sins have been forgiven,Glorify the Lord;Jesus is the great Physician,Praise his holy name.
The world was redeemed, but O how fewAccept the great salvation!Unmindful of Him who died to saveEach tribe, and tongue, and nation.
If you have been healed and purified,Tell others the glad story;Remember 'tis sin not to returnAnd give to God the glory.
Be not like the nine, be like the one,Ye who from Christ still tarry; There's pardon for you, O, come to-day!Christ will your burden carry.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1236» (large, left), title «THE UNGRATEFUL NINE.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «The Ungrateful Nine.»); under it the epigraph in one line («"Were there not ten cleansed, but where are the nine?"—Luke 17 : 17.», old-style figures); on the next line «REV. J. B. ATCHINSON.» at the left (words) and «FRANK M. DAVIS.» at the right (music), both in capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. All four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«4.», between the staves of systems 1–2; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over system 3, and the chorus words are printed once, under systems 3–4; the chorus is sung after every stanza. Each printed line of words carries two verse lines; they are given here one verse line per line. In stanza 1 the word «cleansed,» is printed in a smaller, condensed bold type (fitted under one note). «pardon» (stanza 4) is printed unbroken under two notes; «to - day!» (stanza 4) is printed with a syllable hyphen and is written «to-day» here, the book's spelling. Under the music, centred: «By permission.» The print sets a thin space before «?» and «!» («nine ?», «day !»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight («'tis», «There's»). Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
