⤢ Full screenLead them, my God to thee,Lead them to thee,These children dear of mine,Thou gavest me;O, by thy love divine,Lead them, my God, to thee;Lead them, lead them, lead them to thee.
When earth looks bright and fair,Festive and gay,Let no delusive snare,Lure them astray; But from temptation's power,Lead them, my God, to thee;Lead them, lead them, lead them to thee.
E'en for such little ones,Christ came a child,And thro' this world of sinMoved undefiled;O, for his sake, I pray,Lead them, my God, to thee;Lead them, lead them, lead them to thee.
Yea, though my faith be dim,I would believeThat thou this precious giftWilt now receive;O, take their young hearts now,Lead them, my God, to thee;Lead them, lead them, lead them to thee.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1291» (large, left), title «Lead Them to Thee.» centred (condensed bold capitals and small capitals, final period); under it the epigraph «"Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not : for of such is the kingdom of God."—Luke 18 : 16,» (roman, old-style figures; the reference ends with a comma-shaped stop); on the next line only «FRANK M. DAVIS, by per.» at the right (music) — no name at the left, no author of the words printed. No meter, no tune name other than the title, no tempo word, no reference line and no copyright line are printed. The four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«4.» before the first word of system 1, four lines of words between the staves of both systems, set very tight; there is no chorus (the last two lines, «Lead them, my God, to thee; / Lead them, lead them, lead them to thee.», are printed in every stanza). Each printed line of words follows the staff (system 1 = verse lines 1–4, system 2 = lines 5–7); the stanzas are given here in their seven verse lines. The words divided under the notes are joined here («lit - tle», «be-lieve», «de - lu - sive», «gav-est», «a-stray», «un - de-filed», «re-ceive», «di - vine» → «little», «believe», «delusive», «gavest», «astray», «undefiled», «receive», «divine»); the divisions are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («me ;», «thee ;», «not :», «18 : 16»); it is closed up here; the curly quotation marks and apostrophes are written straight («E'en», «thro'», «temptation's»). Spelling («thro'»), capitals (the pronouns «thee», «thou», «his» in lower case) and punctuation are the print's — including line 1 of stanza 1, «Lead them, my God to thee,», printed WITHOUT the comma after «God» that the same words carry in line 6 of every stanza, and no stop after «believe», «sin» and «gift».
