About this hymn
As printed As printed: the page opens with the last system of «Waiting and Watching.—Concluded.» (hymn 1323); then the hymn number «1324» (large, left) and the title «When Thou Comest.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals: «W», «T», «C» full capitals); on the next line «W. A. O.» at the left (the words), the epigraph «"Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom."—Luke 13 : 42.» in the middle (old-style figures; the reference is printed «13», the verse is Luke 23:42) and «W. A. OGDEN.» at the right (the music, capitals and small capitals). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. The three stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«3.», between the staves of systems 1 and 2; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over system 3, and the chorus words are printed once, under systems 3 and 4. Under the music, centred: «By permission.». Each printed line of words under a system carries two verse lines; the verse lines are given here one per line (each stanza is four lines, 8.7.9.7, rhyming «me / Calvary», «be / me», «skies / Paradise»); the words divided under the notes are joined («com-est», «king-dom», «Je-sus», «re-mem-ber», «pen-i-tent», «en-treat-ed», «Cal-va-ry», «Sin-ful», «up-ward», «Par-a-dise», «Nev-er», «in-spires», «won-der-ful») — the divisions are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. In stanza 1 the «e» of «the» («Christ, the Lord,») is a damaged letter (a thin ring); it is read «the». Stanza 3 «I pray to / Be with thee» keeps the print's capital «Be» at the head of the verse line. The curly apostrophe is written straight («tho'»). Spelling, capitals and punctuation are the print's.
