1

The coming King is at the doorWho once the cross for sinners bore,But now the righteous ones aloneHe comes to gather home.

Chorus.

At the door, at the door,At the door, at the door,At the door, yes, even at the door;He is coming, he is coming, coming again, coming again,He is even at the door.

2

The signs that show his coming nearAre fast fulfilling year by year,And soon we'll hail the glorious dawnOf heav'n's eternal morn.

3

Look not on earth for strife to cease,Look not below for joy and peace,Until the Saviour comes againTo banish death and sin.

4

Then in the glorious earth made newWe'll dwell the countless ages through; This mortal shall immortal be,And time, eternity.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: hymn number «1325» (large, left), title «EVEN AT THE DOOR.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «Even at the Door.»); under it, centred, in two lines, the epigraph «"So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, this generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled."—Matt. 24 : 33. 34.» (old-style figures; «thatit» set closed up); on the next line «F. E. B.» at the left (the words) and «F. E. BELDEN.» at the right (the music, capitals and small capitals). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. All four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«4.», between the staves of systems 1–2; each printed line of words carries two verse lines, given here one verse line per line. «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over system 3; the chorus words are printed once, under systems 3–4, with an echo for tenor and bass in a condensed type under the main line: «Atthedoor, atthedoor,» (set closed up) and «coming again, coming again,»; the echo is sung by tenor and bass while soprano and alto hold «door,» and «com - ing,»; it is given here as an indented line under the verse line it answers (as in HT_1214). The chorus is given once, after stanza 1. Stanza 4 «glo-rious» against stanza 2 «glori-ous» (both as printed). No stanza is printed as text under the music. Under the music, centred: «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.». The print sets a thin space before «;» and in «24 : 33»; it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
