⤢ Full screenOh, glory to God! it is coming again,'Tis the glad jubilee of the children of men; Then blow ye the trumpet, shout glory, and sing,And join in the praises of Jesus the King.
Shout with the voice of triumph,Soon shall the saints be free;Glory to the Lord! hallelujah!Hasten the jubilee.
'Tis the glad antitype of that day long agoWhen the hosts of the Lord might not gather or sow; When the minions of Israel from labor were free,And the land was to rest in the glad jubilee.
Yes, gladder by far is that rest by and by,When on wings like the eagle we mount to the sky;We shall dwell evermore in that land of the blest,In that grand jubilee, in that sabbath of rest.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1328» (large, left), title «THE YEAR OF JUBILEE.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «The Year of Jubilee.»); under it, centred, the epigraph «"The seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest."—Lev. 25 : 4» (old-style figures, no period after the «4»); on the next line «MRS. L. D. A. STUTTLE.» at the left (the words, capitals and small capitals) and «W. A. OGDEN.» at the right (the music). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. All three stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«3.», between the staves of systems 1–3; each printed line of systems 1–2 carries two verse lines, given here one verse line per line. «CHORUS.» (bold capitals, with «f» under it) stands over the middle of system 3; the chorus words begin on the second lyric line of system 3, after stanza 2's «lee.», and fill the one line of system 4, in a small condensed bold type; under «free;» a second line «be free;» is the echo of tenor and bass, who move on while soprano and alto hold «free;» — it is given after the chorus. Stanza 2 «When the», «And the» and stanza 3 «We shall», «In that» are also set in the small condensed type. «again,» and «triumph,» are printed unbroken under two notes; «an - ti-type» and «ju - bi-lee» have a short closed-up second hyphen (syllable division set tight). In stanza 3 a band of specks crosses «grand ju» (dirt of the scan; the letters are legible). Under the music, centred: «Copyrighted 1886 by The J. E. White Pub. Co.». The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («men ;», «God !», «Lev. 25 : 4»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
