⤢ Full screenThe golden morning is fast approaching;Jesus soon will comeTo take his faithful and happy childrenTo their promised home.
O, we see the gleams of the golden morningPiercing thro' this night of gloom!O, we see the gleams of the golden morningThat will burst the tomb.
The gospel summons will soon be carriedTo the nations round; The Bridegroom then will cease to tarryAnd the trumpet sound.
Attended by all the shining angels,Down the flaming skyThe Judge will come, and will take his peopleWhere they will not die.
There those lov'd ones who have long been parted,Will all meet that day;The tears of those who are broken-heartedWill be wiped away.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1336» (large, left), title «GLEAMS OF THE GOLDEN MORNING.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals), in the middle of p. 546 under hymn 1335; under it, centred, the epigraph «"They shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."—Matt. 24 : 30.» (old-style figures); on the next line «S. J. G.» at the left (the words) and «S. J. GRAHAM.» at the right (the music). No meter, no reference line, no copyright notice. The tune ends on the first system of p. 547, headed «GLEAMS OF THE GOLDEN MORNING.—Concluded.». All four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«4.», between the staves of the two systems of p. 546; each printed line of system 1 carries two verse lines and the start of the third, given here one verse line per line. «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over the middle of system 2; its words begin on the second lyric line of system 2, after stanza 2's «sound.», and continue on the one line of the p. 547 system. Many words are set close for want of room («Tothenationsround;», «Downtheflamingsky», «Piercing thro'this»): ordinary spaces restored. Stanza 4 «brok-en - heart-ed» is written «broken-hearted» (see uncertainties.md). The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («round ;», «day ;», «gloom !»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
