⤢ Full screenI think of a home in the kingdom of rest,Where the loved of the Lord will abide;'Tis a home which the glory of God doth illume,And nothing of ill can betide. There sorrow and tears are forever unknown,And joys never ending find room; There the brow wears the impress of heavenly peace,And the cheek immortality's bloom.
O kingdom of rest! would we taste of thy bliss,And share in the promised reward,We must carefully lift ev'ry cross that appears,And joyfully follow our Lord.Tho' the road lead thro' toiling and suffering here,We must drink of the cup that is giv'n;Through much tribulation his chosen must pass,If they enter the kingdom of heav'n.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1351» (large, left), title «KINGDOM OF REST.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «Kingdom of Rest.»); under it, centred, the epigraph «"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth : for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away."—Rev. 21 : 1.» (old-style figures); on the next line «MRS. M. T. HAUGHEY.» at the left (the words) and «M. T. HAUGHEY.» at the right (the music), capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line, no chorus, no copyright line. Both stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.» «2.» in system 1; each of the four systems carries two verse lines of each stanza, given here one verse line per line (8 lines per stanza: each printed line split at the capital that begins its second verse line; no verse line is broken across systems). Words printed unbroken under two notes («kingdom», «appears,», «toiling», «unknown,», «chosen») are whole words in any case. Under the music at the left the signature mark «36» (not part of the hymn); folio «561». The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («rest !», «room ;», «Rev. 21 : 1.»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
