⤢ Full screenWhen Jesus calls his jewelsFrom every land and sea,And takes them home to glory,What a meeting that will be!
Refrain (soprano, upper line). We'll meet them in glory,Meet them in glory,Meet them in glory; What a meeting that will be!
Refrain (alto, tenor and bass, lower line, to «glory;»; then with the soprano). We'll meet them all in glory,Meet them all in glory,Meet them all in glory; What a meeting that will be!
We'll meet the friends departed,—The loved ones laid away; Not one will be forgottenOn the resurrection day.
We'll meet the kings and prophetsOf ages long ago,And all the faithful martyrsWho bled for truth below.
We'll meet in all his beautyThe One whom we adore,Who died that we, believing,Might live forevermore.
O, hope of all the faithful! With longing hearts we say,"Come quickly, blessed Saviour,And bring the promised day."
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1355» (large, left), title «WHAT A MEETING THAT WILL BE!» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «What a Meeting That Will Be!»); under it, centred, the epigraph «"They shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels."—Mal. 4 : 17.» (old-style figures; the chapter is printed «4» — the verse is Malachi 3:17: a printer's slip, kept as printed); on the next line «F. E. B.» at the left (the words) and «F. E. BELDEN.» at the right (the music). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. All five stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«5.», between the staves of systems 1–2; each printed line carries two verse lines, given here one verse line per line. «REFRAIN.» (bold capitals) stands over the treble in system 2 after the heavy bar that ends the stanza; the refrain is printed once, in two lines of words up to «glo-ry;» — the upper line for the soprano («We'll meet . . them in glory», the dots filling the soprano's held note), the lower line for alto, tenor and bass («We'll meet them all in glory») — and one line for all voices from «What a» to the end; both lines are given below. Stanza 3, line 4 is printed «Whb bled for truth below.» (wrong sort «b» for «o»: a printer's slip, kept as printed; the sense is «Who»). «depart», «prophets», «longing», «quickly», «blessed» are printed unbroken under two notes; «jew-els», «beau-ty», «faith-ful», «prom-ised», «meet-ing» (system 3) with a short closed-up hyphen. Under the music, centred: «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.». The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («a-way ;», «faith - ful !», «be !»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
