About this hymn

As printed As printed: hymn number «1356» (large, left), title «THE HOME OVER THERE.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «The Home over There.»); under it, centred, the epigraph «"Oh that I had wings like a dove, for then I would fly away and be at rest."—Ps. 55 : 6.» (old-style figures; in this copy a heavy ink stroke runs through «away and» — the printed words are given; see uncertainties.md); on the next line «REV. D. W. C. HUNTINGTON.» at the left (the words) and «T. C. O'KANE.» at the right (the music). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. All three stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«3.», between the staves of systems 1–2; each printed line carries two verse lines, given here one verse line per line. At the end of each stanza line «over there.» stands under the alto's notes (alto and bass sing it while soprano and tenor hold «white,» / «blest,» / «me,»): it is kept at the end of the last verse line, as printed. «REFRAIN.» (bold capitals) stands over system 3; the refrain is printed once with three lines of words, one for each stanza, which differ only in «Oh, think of the home» / «My Saviour is now» / «I'll soon be at home»: each is given after its stanza. Its «over there;» and the second «over there,» of the third line stand under the alto's notes. Above the bass staff the echo of tenor and bass is printed once: «over there,» (system 1, after the second verse line) and «Over there, over there,» (system 3, refrain) — given after stanza 1. «kindred», «journey», «garments», «Saviour» (refrain, system 4) and every «over»/«Over» printed whole are sung on two notes; «o-ver» is hyphenated where the print hyphenates it (see lyrics_syllables.txt). The refrain lines are divided into verse lines here at the commas of the music's phrases (the print runs each over two systems). Under the music, centred: «By permission.». The print sets a thin space before «;» («rest ;», «see ;», «there ;»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
