  • 4 stanzas
1

There is a land of corn and wine,And all its joys will soon be mine; There shines undimm'd one blissful day,For earth's dark night has passed away.

2

My Saviour then will walk with me;O sweet communion that will be!He'll gently lead me by the hand,In that celestial, happy land.

3

A sweet perfume upon the breeze,Will come from ever vernal trees,And flowers that never-fading grow,Where streams of life forever flow.

4

The zephyrs then will laden beWith sounds of sweetest melody,As angels, with the ransomed throng,Join in the sweet redemption song.

Chorus.

O Beulah land! sweet Beulah land!Upon thy hights I long to stand,And view the radiant, jasper sea,And mansions fair, prepared for me;And find on that eternal shoreMy heaven, my home, forevermore.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: no running head on p. 571 (the page opens with the hymn); hymn number «1361» (large, left), title «Beulah Land.» centred (condensed display face: «B» and «L» full capitals, the rest small capitals; the final period blotted); under it the epigraph in one line of roman, «"Thy land shall be called Beulah, for the Lord delighteth in thee."—Isa. 62 : 4.» (old-style figures); on the next line «EDGAR PAGE.» at the left (words) and «JNO. R. SWENEY.» at the right (music), in capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. The four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«4.» before the lines of system 1, between the staves of systems 1–2; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over system 3, and the chorus words are printed once, between the staves of systems 3–5; the chorus is sung after every stanza. Under the music, centred: «From "The Garner," by per. John J. Hood.». Each printed line of words carries two verse lines; they are given here one verse line per line. Words divided under the notes are joined («Sav-iour», «zeph-yrs», «up-on», «com-mun-ion», «la-den», «sweet-est», «mel-o-dy», «bliss-ful», «a-way», «gent-ly», «ce-les-tial», «hap-py», «an-gels», «re-demp-tion», «Beu-lah», «Up-on», «ra-diant», «jas-per», «e-ter-nal», «for-ev-er», «for-ev-er-more»). Stanza 3 prints «ev - er ver - nal» with no hyphen between «er» and «ver» (two words here: «ever vernal») and «nev - er - fad - ing» (joined as «never-fading»). «hights» (chorus) is the print's spelling. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («me ;», «be !», «land !») and in «He 'll»; it is closed up here; apostrophes and quotation marks are written straight («undimm'd», «He'll», «earth's»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Saviour», «heaven,» sung as one syllable).
