This is not my place of resting,

  • No. 1367
  • Tune REST YONDER.
  • Words Horatius Bonar.
  • Music E. W. Kellogg.
  • Key E-flat major
  • Singing key D♭ major
  • Time 2/4
  • 4 stanzas
1

This is not my place of resting,Mine's a city yet to come;Onward to it I am hast'ning,On to my eternal home.

Refrain.

There is rest yonder, there is rest yonder,There is rest in that happy land; There is rest yonder, there is rest yonder,There is rest in that happy land.

2

In it all is light and glory;O'er it shines a nightless day;Every trace of sin's sad story—All the curse has passed away.

3

There the Lamb, our Shepherd, leads usBy the streams of life along,On the freshest pastures feeds us,Turns our sighing into song.

4

Soon we pass this desert dreary,Soon we bid farewell to pain,Nevermore are sad and weary,Never, never, sin again!

About this hymn

As printed As printed: hymn number «1367» (large, left), title «REST YONDER.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «Rest Yonder.»); on the next line «HORATIUS BONAR.» at the left (the words), the epigraph «"We which have believed do enter into rest."—Heb. 4 : 3.» in the middle (old-style figures) and «E. W. KELLOGG.» at the right (the music), capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line, no copyright line. All four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«4.», between the staves of systems 1–2; each printed line carries two verse lines, given here one verse line per line. «REFRAIN.» (bold capitals) stands over the start of system 3; the refrain words are one line under system 3 and one under system 4, each line two verse lines (split at the capital «There»). Syllable hyphens of the interlinear text are removed in the whole words («rest - ing» → «resting», «Ev - ery» → «Every», «past - ures» → «pastures», «Nev - er - more» → «Nevermore»). Under the music at the left the signature mark «37» (not part of the hymn); folio «577». The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («come ;», «a - gain !»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
