⤢ Full screenGo bury thy sorrow; The world hath its share:Go bury it deeply,Go hide it with care;Go think of it calmlyWhen curtained by night;Go tell it to Jesus,And all will be right.
Go tell it to Jesus; He knoweth thy grief;Go tell it to Jesus; He'll send thee relief;Go gather the sunshineHe sheds on the way; He'll lighten thy burden;Go, weary one, pray.
Hearts growing awearyWith beavier woeNow droop 'mid the darkness:Go comfort them, go!Go bury thy sorrows,Let others be blest;Go give them the sunshine,Tell Jesus the rest.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1372» (large, left), title «GO BURY THY SORROW.» centred (condensed capitals with larger initials); under it the epigraph on one centred line, «"His disciples came and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus."—Matt. 14 : 21» (the words are Matthew 14:12; the print has «21» and no full stop after it); then «ANON.» at the left (words) and «P. P. BLISS.» at the right (music), capitals and small capitals; no meter, no reference line and no running head. The three stanzas are interlinear, three lines between the staves of all three systems, numbered «1.»–«3.» in system 1; each stanza has eight short verse lines (6.5.6.5.6.5.6.5 syllables), two to a bar, each beginning with a capital; they are given here as the verse lines of the poem. Syllable hyphens are joined («bu-ry», «sor-row», «know-eth», «Je-sus», «deep-ly», «re-lief», «com-fort», «calm-ly», «gath-er», «oth-ers», «light-en», «bur-den», «wea-ry», «grow-ing»); «a - wea - ry» is joined as «aweary» (the print cannot show whether the word has a hyphen of its own). The print sets a thin space before some «;», «:» and «!» («row ;», «darkness :», «bur-den ;»); it is closed up here; apostrophes are written straight («He'll», «'mid»). In stanza 3 the second verse line is printed «With beav - i - er woe,» — a «b» for the «h» of «heavier»; it is kept as printed (printer's slip, see uncertainties.md). Under the music: «By permission The John Church Co.» (centred) and the page number «581». A «rit.» (italics) stands over the last bar.
