God is love; his mercy brightens

About this hymn

As printed As printed: hymn number «92», tune name «WELLESLEY. 8s & 7s.» centred over the music, «Lizzie S. Tourjee.» at the right (capitals and small capitals, no accent on the final E); running head «WORSHIP—ATTRIBUTES AND PROVIDENCE OF GOD.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «God». Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «162, 41, 277.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 162, 41 or 277). «Sir John Bowring.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («ever ;», «prove ;», «streameth :», «never :», «shineth :», «light-ens :»); it is closed up here. In stanza 4 line 2 the print has «abovc» — the last letter is a «c» (ball terminal, no cross-bar), an error of the plate for «above»; it is kept as printed (see `uncertainties.md`). «E'en» is printed with the apostrophe. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
