⤢ Full screenCome, let us sing the song of songs,—
The angels first began the strain,—
The homage which to Christ belongs:
"Worthy the Lamb, for he was slain!"
Slain to redeem us by his blood,
To cleanse from every sinful stain,
And make us kings and priests to God:
"Worthy the Lamb, for he was slain!"
To him who suffered on the tree,
Our souls, at his soul's price, to gain,
Blessing, and praise, and glory be:
"Worthy the Lamb, for he was slain!"
To him enthroned by filial right
All power in heaven and earth proclaim,
Honor, and majesty, and might:
"Worthy the Lamb, for he was slain!"
Long as we live, and when we die,
And while in heaven with him we reign,
This song our song of songs shall be:
"Worthy the Lamb, for he was slain!"
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «104», tune name «RUSSIA. L. M.» centred over the music, «Russian.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—ADORATION OF CHRIST.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Come,». Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «212, 101, 347.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 212, 101 or 347). «James Montgomery.» in italics after stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «:» and «!» («God :», «slain !», «be :», «might :»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's; the curly quotation marks are written straight. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print (line 4 only slightly, behind its opening quotation mark).
