⤢ Full screenO law of God! blest and divine!
Penned by the Everlasting Hand!
Long shall thy sacred precepts shine,
Firm as the eternal hills shall stand.
God's covenant shall e'er abide,
Though heaven and earth shall pass away;
That rule which is the angel's guide
Shall I not fear to disobey?
With all my power, from morn till night,
I'll publish 'mong the sons of men
That sacred law, though others scorn
To keep thy holy precepts ten.
O that an angel's tongue were mine!
Then would I magnify that word,
Which, echoing from lips divine,
From Sinai's rugged mount was heard.
And when old earth shall be restored
To Eden beauty, fair and bright,
And God himself shall dwell with men,
Still in that law shall I delight.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «198», reference line «108, 343, 64.» in italics (sing to the tune of hymn 108, 343 or 64); the whole hymn stands in the left column of p. 68, below hymn 197; «Mrs. L. D. A. Stuttle.» in italics at the end. The first word after «O», «LAW», is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «!», «;» and «?» («God !», «divine !», «Hand !», «away ;», «disobey ?», «mine !»); it is closed up here. In stanza 2, line 2 is too long for the column and the print carries «away;» onto a line of its own; it is joined here. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («God's», «e'er», «angel's», «I'll», «'mong», «Sinai's»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., 8.8.8.8).
