⤢ Full screenSweet is the work, my God, my King,
To praise thy name, give thanks and sing;
To show thy love by morning light,
And talk of all thy truth by night.
Sweet is the day of sacred rest;
No mortal cares shall seize my breast;
O, may my heart in tune be found,
Like David's harp of solemn sound!
My heart shall triumph in the Lord
And bless his works and bless his word;
Thy works of grace how bright they shine!
How deep thy counsels, how divine!
When grace has purified my heart,
Then I shall share a glorious part;
And fresh supplies of joy be shed,
Like holy oil to cheer my head.
Then shall I see and hear and know
All I desired or wished below,
And every hour find sweet employ
In that eternal world of joy.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—THE SABBATH.»; hymn number «219» (large), tune name «ALWAY. L. M.» centred over the music (condensed bold), «ISAAC B. WOODBURY.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Sweet»; under the staves «morn - ing» is hyphenated with spaces. Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «171, 215, 212.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 171, 215 or 212). «Isaac Watts.» in italics after stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («sing ;», «rest ;», «sound !»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («David's»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. In this hymn the four lines of each stanza are printed flush (no indentation).
