⤢ Full screenThis is the day of sacred rest,
Which God hath sanctified and blessed,
When throned in majesty he stood,
And viewed his works, and called them good.
The heavenly host their harps employ,
The sons of God gave shouts of joy;
Through heaven and earth his praises rang,
The morning stars together sang.
Come, then, ye weary souls oppressed
Come and enjoy this holy rest;
Let humble songs like incense rise,
And prayer and praise ascend the skies.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «220», reference line «212, 215, 104.» in italics (sing to the tune of hymn 212, 215 or 104); the whole hymn stands in the left column of p. 74, below hymn 219; «Dr. H. Clarke.» in italics at the end. The first word, «THIS», is set in capitals and small capitals. In stanza 1, line 4 is too long for the column and the print carries «good.» onto a line of its own; it is joined here. The print sets a thin space before «;» («joy ;», «rest ;»); it is closed up here. The four lines of each stanza are printed flush (no indentation). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., 8.8.8.8).
