⤢ Full screenCome, dearest Lord, and feed thy sheep,
On this sweet day of rest;
O bless this flock, and make this fold
Enjoy a heavenly rest.
Welcome and precious to my soul
Are these sweet days of love,
But what a Sabbath shall I keep
When I shall rest above!
I come, I wait, I hear, I pray;
Thy footsteps, Lord, I trace;
Here, in thine own appointed way,
I wait to see thy face.
These are the sweet and precious days
On which my Lord I've seen;
And oft, when feasting on his word,
In raptures I have been.
O, if my soul, when Christ appears,
In this sweet frame be found,
I'll clasp my Saviour in my arms,
And leave this earthly ground!
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «229» (large) with the reference line «120, 117, 183.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 120, 117 or 183); all five stanzas stand in the right column of p. 76, below hymn 228, with «William Mason.» in italics after stanza 5. The first word «COME» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («rest ;», «above !», «pray ;», «trace ;», «seen ;», «ground !»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («I've», «I'll»). Stanza 2 line 1 («Welcome and precious to my soul») is written without a stop: the tiny mark after «soul» is a quarter of the size of this type's period (see uncertainties.md). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is C. M., 8.6.8.6).
