Worship — Closing Hymns

God of our salvation, hear us

  • No. 281
  • Words Thomas Kelly.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

God of our salvation, hear us;
Bless, O, bless us, ere we go;
When we join the world, be near us,
Lest we cold and careless grow.

2

May we live in view of heaven,
Where we hope to see thy face;
Let thy Spirit's light be given,
All our hidden paths to trace.

3

As our steps are drawing nearer
To the place we call our home,
May our view of heaven grow clearer,
Hope more bright of joys to come.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: running head «WORSHIP—CLOSING HYMNS.»; hymn number «281» (large) with the reference line «41, 162, 92.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 41, 162 or 92); the hymn stands at the foot of the right column, below hymn 280, with «Thomas Kelly.» in italics after the last stanza. The first word «GOD» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («hear us ;», «go ;», «face ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («Spirit's»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is 8s & 7s., 8.7.8.7, like the tunes of the reference line).
