⤢ Full screenOf thy love some gracious token
Grant us, Lord, before we go;
Bless the word which has besn spoken,
Life and peace on all bestow.
When we join the world again,
Let our hearts with thee remain;
O direct us!
O protect us,
Till we gain the heavenly shore,
Where thy people want no more!
Then, O Lord of mercy, hear us,
Guard our souls from every foe;
In all peril be thou near us,
In our weakness, strength bestow.
God of Israel, be our stay
While we tread life's rugged way;
Nor forsake us,
Till thou take us,
To thyself to dwell with thee,
Through a bright eternity.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—CLOSING HYMNS.»; hymn number «282» (large), tune name «GRACIOUS TOKEN. P. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «UNKNOWN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); no reference line. Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before a brace: its first four lines are printed as two lines one above the other in braces, «{ Of thy love some gracious to - ken Grant us, Lord, before we go; / Bless the word which has besn spok-en, Life and peace on all bestow. }», under the first strain of the music, which ends with a repeat sign (first and second time); the remaining six lines follow on one line. «gracious», «before», «bestow», «remain», «protect» and «heavenly» are printed unbroken under two notes. In the second bracketed line the print has «besn» (a printer's slip for «been»), kept as printed. Stanza 2 is printed as text in two columns below the music (lines 1–5 left, 6–10 right); «Anon.» in italics after it. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («go ;», «remain ;», «us !», «more !», «foe ;», «way ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («life's»). In stanza 2, lines 2 and 4 are indented, and lines 7–8 («Nor forsake us, / Till thou take us,») more; stanza 1 is set here in the same pattern. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
