⤢ Full screenWhen the blind suppliant in the way,By friendly hands to Jesus led,Prayed to behold the light of day,"Receive thy sight," the Saviour said.
At once he saw the pleasant raysThat lit the glorious firmament; And, with firm step and words of praise,He followed where the Master went.
Look down in pity, Lord, we pray,On eyes oppressed by moral night,And touch the darkened lids, and sayThe gracious words, "Receive thy sight."
Then, in clear daylight, shall we seeWhere walked the sinless Son of God;And, aided by new strength from thee,Press onward in the path he trod.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «305» (large) with the reference line «215, 136, 514.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 215, 136 or 514), in the left column of p. 101 below hymn 304 and «Josiah Conder.»; four stanzas, then «William C. Bryant.» in italics. The first word «WHEN» is set in capitals and small capitals. The stanza numbers are printed without a period («1» … «4»); they are written «1.» … here, as in the other deliveries of this book. The print sets a thin space before «;» («firmament ;», «God ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly quotation marks are written straight («"Receive thy sight,"», «"Receive thy sight."»). An ink blot touches the «r» of «Prayed» and the opening quotation mark of the next line; it hides no letter. Line 3 of stanza 3 («And touch the darkened lids, and say») has no punctuation at its end, as printed. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., like the referenced tunes). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
