⤢ Full screenO Jesus, sweet the tears I shedWhile at thy cross I kneel,Gaze on thy wounded, fainting head,And all thy sorrows feel.
My heart dissolves to see thee bleed,This heart so hard before;I hear thee for the guilty plead,And grief o'erflows the more.
I know this cleansing blood of thineWas shed, dear Lord, for me;For me, for all,—O, grace divine!—Who look by faith on thee.
In patient hope the cross I 'll bear,Thine arm shall be my stay; And thou, enthroned, my soul shalt spareOn thy great Judgment-day.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «328» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 108, beside the music's lower edge, with the reference line «201, 204.» (italic); «Ray Palmer.» in italics after stanza 4. The word «JESUS» of the first line is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («me ;», «divine !—», «stay ;»); it is closed up here. «I 'll» (stanza 4) is set with a word space before the apostrophe and is kept so (convention of this book's transcriptions, as in HT_0026 and HT_0077). The apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is C. M., like its two reference tunes).
