⤢ Full screenAgainst the God that rules the skyI fought, with weapons lifted high;I madly ran the sinful race,Regardless of a hiding-place.
But a celestial voice I heard,A bleeding Saviour then appeared;Led by the Spirit of his grace,I found in him a hiding-place.
On him the weight of vengeance fellThat else had sunk a world to hell; Then, O my soul, forever praiseThy Saviour, God, thy hiding-place!
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «368» (large) with the reference line «215, 301, 336.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 215, 301 or 336), in the right column of p. 121 below the end of hymn 367 and «Jared Waterbury.»; three stanzas, then «Jehoida Brewer.» in italics (so spelled; an ink blot stands before the «J»). The first word «AGAINST» is set in capitals and small capitals; it is written «Against» here. The stanza numbers are printed without a period («1» … «3»); they are written «1.» … here, as in the other deliveries of this book. The lines of the stanzas are not indented. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («high ;», «appeared ;», «hell ;», «hiding-place !»); it is closed up here. In stanza 3 line 4 «Saviour,God,» is set with almost no space after the comma (a tight line); it is written «Saviour, God,». «hiding-place» is hyphenated in mid-line in the print. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., like the referenced tunes). Spelling («Saviour»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
