1

There is an hour of hallowed peaceFor those with cares oppressed,When sighs and sorrowing tears shall cease,And all be hushed to rest.'Tis then the soul is freed from fearsAnd doubts which here annoy; Then they that oft have sown in tearsShall reap again in joy.

2

There is a home of sweet repose,Where storms assail no more; The stream of endless pleasure flowsOn that celestial shore. There purity and love appear,And bliss without alloy; There they that oft had sown in tearsShall reap again in joy.

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «488» (large) in the right column of p. 157, under stanza 2 of hymn 487, with the reference line «83, 992.» in italic figures (sing to the tunes of hymns 83 VARINA or 992 AMBOY, both C. M. D.; no meter is printed — the eight lines 8.6.8.6.8.6.8.6 are C. M. D.). Stanzas numbered «1», «2» without periods (written «1.», «2.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2, 4, 6 and 8 indented. The first word «THERE» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «There». «William B. Tappan.» in italics after stanza 2. Line 3 of stanza 1 is set very tight («sighsand sorrowing tearsshallcease,»); the words are spaced normally here. The print sets a thin space before «;» («annoy ;», «more ;», «alloy ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («'Tis»). Pencil marks of the exemplar beside the number and the reference line («1869 Hymnal», «409») are not printed matter and are not transcribed. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
