O Christ, with each returning morn

  • No. 541
  • Words Anon.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

O Christ, with each returning mornThine image to our hearts be borne; And may we ever clearly seeOur dearest treasure, Lord, in thee!

2

All hallowed be our walk this day;May meekness form our morning ray,And faithful love our noontide light,And hope our sunset, calm and bright.

3

May grace each idle thought control,And sanctify each wayward soul;May guile depart, and malice cease,And all within be joy and peace.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «541» (large) in the right column of p. 178, below hymn 540; reference line «301, 108, 347.» in bold italics (sing to the tune of hymn 301, 108 or 347); three stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); «Anon.» in italics at the end. In the first line «O» is a full capital and «CHRIST» is set in capitals and small capitals. All lines of every stanza are set flush (no indentation), unlike hymns 538–540 on the same page. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («borne ;», «thee !», «day ;», «soul ;»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., 8.8.8.8).
