⤢ Full screenJoyfully, joyfully, onward I move,Bound for the land of bright glory above;Angelic choristers sing as I come,"Joyfully, joyfully, haste to thy home."Soon shall I pass from this dark vale of woe,Home to the land of the righteous I 'll go;Pilgrim and stranger, no more shall I roam,Joyfully, joyfully, resting at home.
Friends fondly cherished, now sleep in the ground,But they 'll awake when the last trump shall sound,Loosed from death's fetters, and upward we 'll soar,Joyfully meeting to part nevermore.Sounds of sweet melody fall on the ear;Harps of the blessed, your voices I 'll hearFilling with harmony heaven's high dome,"Joyfully, joyfully, haste to thy home."
Death with his weapons of war has laid lowMany a pilgrim who feared not the blow;Jesus has broken the bars of the tomb;Joyfully, joyfully, will they come home.Bright will the morn of eternity dawn,Death shall be banished, his scepter be gone;Joyfully, then, shall I witness his doom,Joyfully, joyfully, safely at home.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «619» (large) at the top of the right column of p. 202, beside the music of hymn 618, then in italics and brackets «[Tune, Triumph. No. 620.]» (sing to the tune TRIUMPH, hymn 620 on the next page; a stop, not a comma, after «Triumph»), then «10s. P.» in bold at the right («P.» smaller). Three numbered stanzas of eight lines, numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), lines set flush (no indentation), the opening quotation marks of «"Joyfully, joyfully, haste to thy home."» hung in the margin. «William Hunter.» in italics, right-aligned, at the end. The first word «JOYFULLY» is set in capitals and small capitals (written «Joyfully» here). Lines 1–3 of stanza 2 and line 6 of stanza 3 run over the column width («ground,», «shall sound,», «we 'll soar,», «gone;» on the next printed line): joined here as one verse line each. «I 'll», «they 'll», «we 'll» are set with a space before the apostrophe and are kept so (as in HT_0026, HT_0029, HT_0077). The print sets a thin space before «;» («ear ;», «tomb ;», «gone ;»); it is closed up here. Curly quotation marks are written straight. Spelling («scepter»), punctuation and capitals are the print's; lines without final punctuation («I 'll hear», «laid low») are as printed.
