⤢ Full screenLet worldly minds the world pursue; It has no charms for me:Once I admired its trifles too,But grace has set me free.
Its joys can now no longer please,Nor e'en content afford:Far from my heart be joys like these,For I have seen the Lord.
As by the light of opening dayThe stars are all concealed,So earthly pleasures fade awayWhen Jesus is revealed.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «638» (large) in the right column of p. 208, below hymn 637, with the italic reference line «724, 669, 117.» (= sing to the tunes of hymns 724, 669 or 117) beside the number; an ink spot stands just above-right of the number (a blot, not type). Three stanzas, numbered «1» … «3» (no period; written «1.» … here as in the other deliveries of this book); the second and fourth lines of each stanza are indented in the print; «John Newton.» in italics after stanza 3 (the italic J looks like a script «I»/«Y»). The first word «LET» is set in capitals and small capitals; written in ordinary type here. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («pursue ;», «me :», «afford :»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «e'en» is written straight. A smudge over the «ea» of «pleasures» (stanza 3) does not hide the letters. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
