⤢ Full screenRejoice, believer, in the Lord,Who makes your cause his own;The hope that 's built upon his wordShall ne'er be overthrown.
Though many foes beset your road,And feeble is your arm,Your life is hid with Christ in God,Beyond the reach of harm.
Weak as you are, you shall not faint,Or, fainting, shall not die;Jesus, the strength of every saint,Will aid you from on high.
Though now unseen by outward sense,Faith sees him always near,A guide, a glory, a defense; What, then, have we to fear?
As surely as he overcame,And triumphed once for you,So surely you that love his nameShall triumph in him too.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «678» (large) at the bottom of the left column of p. 220, under «William H. Bathurst.» of hymn 677 (NORTHFIELD), with the italic reference line «201, 308.» (= sing to the tunes of hymns 201 or 308) beside the number. Stanzas 1–3 stand at the bottom of the left column, stanzas 4–5 at the top of the right column; numbered «1»–«5» without a full stop (written «1.»–«5.» here), the second and fourth lines of each stanza indented (kept here). The first word «REJOICE» is set in capitals and small capitals (written «Rejoice» here). «The hope that 's built» is printed with a space before the apostrophe and kept so, as in the earlier hymns («There 's», «Thine 's»). «Anon.» in italics after stanza 5. The print's thin space before «;» and «?» is closed up; apostrophes are written straight. No meter is printed (the text is C. M., like the tunes referred to). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
