Go not far from me, O my Strength

  • No. 745
  • Words Anna L. Waring.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Go not far from me, O my Strength,Whom all my times obey;Take from me anything thou wilt,But go not thou away; And let the storm that does thy workDeal with me as it may.

2

No suffering, while it lasts, is joy,How blest soe'er it be;Yet may the chastened child be gladHis Father's face to see;And O, it is not hard to bearWhat must be borne in thee!

3

Safe in thy sanctifying grace,Almighty to restore;Borne onward, sin and death behind,And love and life before,O let my soul abound in hope,And praise thee more and more!

4

Deep unto deep may call, but IWith peaceful heart will say,"Thy loving-kindness hath a chargeNo waves can take away;"And let the storm that speeds me home,Deal with me as it may.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «745» (large), with NO reference line, in the right column of p. 242 right under «Anna L. Waring.» of hymn 744; four stanzas numbered «1»–«4» (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), with «Anna L. Waring.» in italics after stanza 4. The first word is set «GO» — «G» full capital, «O» in small capital; written in ordinary type here. Lines 2, 4 and 6 of each stanza are indented in the print; in stanza 4 the opening quotation mark of line 3 hangs in the margin. No meter is printed: the text is 8s & 6s in six lines (8.6.8.6.8.6), the metre of WARING. 8s & 6s. 6l. (hymn 744) printed just above it, by the same author. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («obey ;», «away ;», «be ;», «see ;», «restore ;», «thee !», «more !», «away ; "»); it is closed up here, and the quotation marks are written straight. Spelling («soe'er», «chastened»), punctuation and capitals («Strength») are the print's.
