⤢ Full screenShepherd divine, thou leadest meWhere the still waters gently flow;In pastures fair thou feedest me;I trust thy love, no want I know.
In danger's hour thou hidest me,Safe from the foe of thy dear flock; At sultry noon thou guidest meTo rest beside the cooling rock.
When chilling dews of evening fall,Then to the fold thou bidst me come;Gladly I hasten at thy call;Sweet is the voice that calls me home
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN GUIDANCE AND PROTECTION.» (no dash on this page); hymn number «748» (large, left — beside it a handwritten ink mark of the exemplar, not transcribed), tune name «WINTERBOURNE. L. M.» centred over the music, «EDWIN BARNES.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); in the right margin, printed vertically and reading top to bottom, «Copyrighted 1886» beside system 1 and «by F. E. Belden.» beside system 2 (= «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.»; the note names Belden although the composer in the header is Edwin Barnes — both as printed). Stanza 1 is set between the staves, one text line (two verse lines) per system, with «1.» before «Shep»; «Shep - herd», «di - vine», «lead - est», «wa - ters», «gent - ly», «past-ures» (divided so, closed up) and «feed - est» are printed in syllables and joined here. Stanza 2 (left column) and stanza 3 (right column) are printed as text below the music, under the italic reference line «746, 624, 104.» (= the words may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 746, 624 or 104); «F. E. Belden.» in italics after stanza 3. The stanza numbers of the text stanzas are printed without a full stop; they are numbered «2.», «3.» here like stanza 1. Lines 2 and 4 of each text stanza are indented in the print. The printer's thin space before «;» («flock ;», «come ;», «call ;») is closed up here. Stanza 3, line 4 ends without punctuation in the print («calls me home»); it is kept so (see `uncertainties.md`).
