⤢ Full screenDeign, Jesus, Lord, my soul to hideWithin thy pierced and bleeding side!O give me in thy wounded heartMy rest to find, nor thence depart.
When Satan's wiles would work me harm,And earth with her delights would charm,Within thy heart I safely rest,Within thy side secure and blest.
When sense with every art beguiles,And tempts me with her treacherous smiles,I will not fear, since still for meThy side a refuge safe shall be.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «747» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 243, below the music of hymn 746 and beside its text stanzas, with the italic reference line «624, 223, 104.» (= sing to the tunes of hymns 624, 223 or 104; all three are L. M. tunes) beside the number; three stanzas of four lines, numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), all lines flush. The first word «DEIGN» is set in capitals and small capitals (written «Deign» here). The print sets a thin space before «!» («side !»); it is closed up here. Stanza 3, line 2 is set very tight («Andtempts mewith hertreacherous smiles,»); it is written with ordinary spaces. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., like the three reference tunes). The attribution under stanza 3 is printed, in italics, as «From the Latin by Ray P» and stops there — no further letters and no full stop; it is transcribed exactly as printed (see `uncertainties.md`).
