⤢ Full screenO, let me walk with thee, my God,As Enoch walked in days of old;Place thou my trembling hand in thine,And sweet communion with me hold;E'en though the path I may not see,Yet, Jesus, let me walk with thee.
I cannot, dare not, walk alone; The tempest rages in the sky,A thousand snares beset my feet,A thousand foes are lurking nigh:Still thou the raging of the sea,O Master! let me walk with thee.
If I may rest my hand in thine,I 'll count the joys of earth but loss,And firmly, bravely journey on;I 'll bear the banner of the crossTill Zion's glorious gates I see:Yet, Saviour, let me walk with thee.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—GUIDANCE AND PROTECTION.»; hymn number «751» (large, left), tune name «MORTON. L. M. 6L.» centred over the music (condensed capitals; the «L» after the 6 a small capital), «EDWIN BARNES.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); in the left margin, printed vertically, «by J. E. White.» beside system 1 and «Copyrighted 1886» beside system 2 (= «Copyrighted 1886 by J. E. White.»; the last figure of the year read from the native pixels, see `uncertainties.md`). Stanza 1 is set between the staves in a condensed bold face as running text, one long line (three verse lines) per system, with «1.» before «O,»: «com-mun - ion» and «Je - sus» are printed in syllables and joined here; «Enoch» and «trembling» are printed as whole words. Stanzas 2–3 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the italic reference line «234, 320.» (= the words may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 234 or 320, both L. M. 6l.); «Mrs. L. D. A. Stuttle.» in italics after stanza 3. The stanza numbers of the text stanzas are printed without a full stop («2 I cannot»); they are numbered «2.» here like stanza 1. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print; lines 5 and 6 are flush with line 1. The printer's thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («alone ;», «nigh :», «Master !», «on ;», «see :») is closed up here. «I 'll» (stanza 3, twice) is set with a space before the apostrophe in the print and is kept so (convention of HT_0026, HT_0122, HT_0602). The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («E'en», «Zion's»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Saviour»).
