⤢ Full screenThe Lord my pasture shall prepare,And feed me with a shepherd's care; His presence shall my wants supply,And guard me with a watchful eye;My noonday walks he shall attend,And all my midnight hours defend.
When on the sultry glebe I faint,Or on the thirsty mountain pant,To fertile vales and dewy meadsMy weary, wandering steps he leadsWhere peaceful rivers, soft and slow,Amid the verdant landscape flow.
Though in the paths of death I tread,With gloomy horrors overspread,My steadfast heart shall fear no ill,For thou, O Lord! art with me still;Thy friendly staff shall give me aid,And guide me through the dreadful shade.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «752» (large) in the left column of p. 245, under «Mrs. L. D. A. Stuttle.» of hymn 751, with the reference line «234, 320.» in bold italics beside it (= sing to the tune of hymn 234 or 320, both L. M. 6l.); three numbered stanzas of six lines, the whole hymn in the left column; «Joseph Addison.» in italics at the end. The first word is set «THE», the «T» as a full capital and «HE» in small capitals; written in ordinary type here. The stanza numbers are printed without a full stop («1» … «3»); written «1.» … here as in the other deliveries of this book. All six lines of each stanza are flush left in the print (no indentation). The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («care ;», «eye ;», «Lord !», «still ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («shepherd's»). No meter is printed (the text is L. M. 6l., 8.8.8.8.8.8, like the tunes of the reference line). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («glebe», «noonday»).
