⤢ Full screenHail, glorious day! ere long to dawn,And set death's captives free;Triumphant then will they come forthWith shouts of victory.
And when my Saviour shall appear,If in the grave I lie,The last loud trumpet I shall hear,And live, no more to die.
It is enough, although I closeIn death my weary eyes,In that bright morn, my Lord to see,And meet him in the skies.
And in that resurrection mornI shall his face behold;'Tis then my Lord to me will giveThe starry crown of gold.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «796» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 261, beside the end of the music of hymn 794, with the reference line «724, 798, 546.» in bold italic figures beside it (= the words may be sung to the tunes of hymns 724, 798 or 546 — HERBERT, CHOPIN and MEAR, all C. M.). No meter is printed (the text is C. M., 8.6.8.6). The first word «HAIL,» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «Hail,» here. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («day !», «free ;», «behold ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophes of «death's» and «'Tis» are written straight. Stanza numbers printed without periods are written «1.»–«4.». «Mrs. M. S. Avery.» in italics after stanza 4. Spelling («Saviour»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
