Waiting for Christ

Dear Saviour, we would know thy love

  • No. 803
  • Metre C. M.
  • Words Anon.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Dear Saviour, we would know thy loveWhich yet no measure knows; For us it led thee once to die; From thence salvation flows.

2

Fain would we strike the golden harp,And wear the promised crown,And at thy feet, while bending low,Would sing what grace hath done.

3

Then leave us not in this dark world,As strangers long to roam;Come, Lord, and take us to thyself,Come, Jesus, quickly come!

As printed: hymn number «803» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 263, with the reference line «724, 395, 204.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 724 HERBERT, 395 BALERMA or 204 AVON, all C. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M., like the referenced tunes). The first word «DEAR» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «Dear». «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 3. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («knows ;», «die ;», «roam ;», «come !»); it is closed up here. Spelling («Saviour», «thyself»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
