⤢ Full screenSoon will the heavenly Bridegroom come;Ye wedding-guests draw near,And slumber not in sin, when he,The Son of God, is here!Come, let us haste to meet our Lord,And hail him with delight;Who saves us by his precious blood,From sorrows infinite!
Beside him will the patriarchs old,And holy prophets stand; The glorious apostolic choir,And noble martyr band.As brethren dear they 'll welcome us,And lead us to the throne,Where angels bow their vailèd heads,Before the Eternal One.
There we, with all the saints of God,A white-robed multitude,Shall praise our glorious Lord, who deignedTo bear our flesh and blood. Our happy lot shall be to shareHis reign of peace above,And drink, with unexhausted joy,The river of his love.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «869» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 290, under the music of hymn 868 CANAAN, with the italic reference line «486, 686.» beside it (= sing to the tunes of hymns 486 or 686); three stanzas of eight lines, numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2, 4, 6, 8 of each stanza indented; «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, at the foot of the column. The first word «SOON» is set in capitals and small capitals (written «Soon» here). No meter is printed (the text is C. M. D., like CANAAN beside it and the two reference tunes). The print sets a thin space before «!» («here !», «infinite !»); it is closed up here. «they 'll» is printed with a space before the apostrophe and «vailèd» with a grave accent; both kept. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
